Philosophy OF THE SERVICE HOURS PROGRAM
The Service Hours Program is designed with two primary goals: to help keep tuition costs manageable and to engage the talents and time of our parent community in enriching our children’s Catholic educational experience.
We also aim to encourage active participation from both parents and students in school life. Throughout the year, a variety of service opportunities will be offered during school hours, as well as in the evenings and on weekends, allowing families to contribute in ways that best fit their schedules and strengths.
We are grateful for your continued support and commitment to our school community.
Each family with students in grades PS through Grade 8 is required to give a minimum of 15 hours of service during each school year. Families are encouraged to become involved in the BSS community according to their interests and talents. Service hours are a great way to get more involved in your student’s school, and get to know our wonderful BSS Community! There are plenty of ways to fulfill your service hour requirement, including at-home and after-hours activities. Service hours can be served by parents, grandparents or other adult family members. All volunteers, who are working at events with children must submit a CORI form to the front office, and participate in VIRTUS training in advance of the event. Service hours must be logged through the Renweb Family Portal. If you have any questions, or would like more information on ways to fulfill your service hour requirement, please feel free to reach out to BSS Director of Advancement at [email protected] or [email protected].
There are many opportunities to fulfill your service hours. Examples include:
Documenting Hours
All service hours must be logged and recorded within your individual FACTS account. If you volunteer at an event, your hours must be submitted within one month of service in order to be credited for them. For example, you will not be able to submit hours in February for and event held in October. If you volunteer as an athletic team or activity coach, you should log hours within one month of the season’s end.
Instructions for Logging Service Hours in FACTSSERVICE HOUR DEPOST, Cash Payment and Donation Options
An initial $450 service hour deposit is prorated and collected with tuition payments during your student’s first year of enrollment. The deposit carries over each year, provided that the annual service hour requirement is fulfilled, and will be returned upon your student’s graduation or withdrawal from the school.
Families are expected to complete 15 service hours each year. If you are unable to fulfill this requirement, you may choose to pay the annual service hour fee of $450, or $30 per unserved hour.
Service hours may also be fulfilled through approved donations or in-kind professional services that benefit the school. Examples include donating raffle items for school events or providing professional services the school would otherwise need to purchase. All in-kind contributions must be approved by the school office in advance.
Any unfulfilled service hours will be billed through FACTS at the end of the school year.
